Tolo Harbour Biology discovered for the first time that CRISPR-Cas12 protein has efficient "trans-cleavage activity" and developed "Holmes/HOLMES" nucleic acid rapid detection platform technology (one-HUR Low-cost Multipurpose highly Efficient System) based on the unique advantages of the enzyme. Compared with the traditional molecular diagnostic technology, HOLMES technology based on CRISPR has the advantages of high sensitivity, high specificity, fast and convenient, and is praised as "the next generation of molecular diagnostic technology" by the American magazine Science. It has great application potential in many fields such as pathogen detection, genetic disease screening, precision medicine and so on.
Tolo Harbour Biology has a methodology patent for Cas12 nucleic acid detection (Chinese invention patent, patent number: ZL 201710573752.0;ZL 201810560284.8), and in 2019 and 2020, it reached a patent cross-licensing cooperation in the Sino-US market with Sherlock Biosciences Company, led by Professor Zhang Feng, academician of the American Academy of Sciences, on Cas12 and Cas13 diagnostic technologies. In November 2022, the two sides further signed a global CRISPR diagnostic "patent cross-licensing" cooperation agreement, completing the overall layout of Tolo Biotech's underlying methodology patents in the field of CRISPR testing.
Tolo Harbor Biology is currently actively promoting the application of HOLMES and SHERLOCK platform technologies in molecular POCT, clinical infection detection, tumor early screening and accompanying diagnosis, home detection, etc. It is also willing to join hands with in vitro diagnosis peers to promote the rapid development of CRISPR diagnosis industry.
