The CRISPR/Cas system can be divided into two categories, namely Class I and Class II. Among them, the effector complex of the Class I system is composted of multiple Cas protein subunits, and the common feature of this category is the involvement of multiple Cas protein effectors to achieve target recognition and cleavage functions; by contrast, the effector module of the Class II system is represented by a single multi-domain Cas protein, including Cas9,Cas12 and Cas13.Noticeably,because of the much simplicity and high efficiency of the single Cas protein, the Class II CRISPR/Cas systems are more widely used.
